Once I knew a boy just so.
and said this phase too would go.
Another will take its place,
Oh look there now, a smiling face.
Today and morrow attend.
Nothing past need us amend.
Life's focus is ever onward.
But wait, isn't that a bit untoward?
Yes, some're worth a second look.
Life's past is our picture book.
Peering forward has value,
but it has no clear purview.
A re-read and short review
might reveal some detail missed,
that special one you first kissed?
something then seen now anew.
The past holds us in its hands.
It's not blown or drifting sands.
There's wisdom there and delight,
a treasure to give us light
for who we were and would be,
also humor for rough seas.
Look again and it might suck.
To see, reflect, but not get stuck.
Round each corner there is luck--
your fate--or what you can pluck.
Fruit a plenty we can choose
and win the prize, seldom lose:
Is it time for escape, "Let's break"?
or stand firm for goodness sake?
Full aware we play our best;
life's a game . . . but not a test.
